PREP District 1 FAQ

What is PREP?

The Personal Responsibility Education Program (PREP) is a statewide initiative aimed to provide career preparation, financial literacy skill building, healthy relationship skill building, and comprehensive sexual health education for youth ages 14-21 in foster care, group homes, independent living, the juvenile justice system, alternative schools, pregnant teens, and/or new teen parents.

What’s in the PREP Curriculum?

  • Making Proud Choices (MPC) – includes 8 lessons to provide youth with the knowledge, confidence and skills necessary to reduce their risk of sexually transmitted diseases (STDs), HIV and pregnancy by abstaining from sex or using condoms if they choose to have sex.
  • Adulthood Topics Module – includes 3 modules on healthy relationships, career building skills, and financial literacy skills to prepare youth to be responsible adults.
  • Coming Soon – Beyond the Birds & the Bees! The purpose of this parent/guardian workshop is to increase the ability for adults to talk with young people about sex, using accurate information and resources.

*Please do not wait to register. Class sizes are limited!

What’s a Fidelity Check?

After successful completion of the Provider Training, you are required to participate in a Fidelity Check during your first implementation of the PREP curriculum with your youth. During a Fidelity Check, one of our staff members will observe you providing the PREP curriculum with your youth. The staff member is there to make sure all elements of the PREP curriculum are being taught fully/correctly and to provide support to you just in case you have a question or get “stuck.” Need a Fidelity Check? Visit www.richlandhealth.org/PREP and click on the Request A Fidelity Check link!

How Can I Get a Prep Kit?

Delivering the PREP curriculum with your youth is super organized, convenient, and easy with the PREP Kit! The PREP Kit includes all the supplies and materials you need to conduct a PREP class with your youth. Need a PREP Kit? Visit www.richlandhealth.org/PREP and click on the Request A PREP Kit link! We’ll mail the PREP Kit to you via UPS. Once you are finished with your PREP Kit, use the UPS Return Shipment Label and box we provide you and send it back to us at Richland Public Health.

There’s Incentives?! and CEUs?!

YES! We have the ability to offer incentives to your agency, your youth, and/or parents/guardians for fully implementing the PREP curriculum. Examples of incentives include gift cards, food, gas cards, bus passes, equipment to deliver the PREP curriculum (e.g., DVD player), and more!
