Look Before You Lock Richland is a countywide initiative designed to help prevent injuries and deaths related to children and pets being left unattended in vehicles. The program provides both high-tech tools and simple, low-tech reminders to support families and promote everyday safety.
“This initiative is about supporting caregivers with real, usable tools—no matter their situation,” said Dr. Julie Chaya, Health Commissioner at Richland Public Health. “Whether it’s a sensor that connects to your phone or a wristband that reminds you to check the back seat, we want to make safety second nature.”

Why It Matters
Busy days, full hands, and everyday distractions can sometimes lead to unintended outcomes — but smart, supportive tools can make a difference.
Richland Public Health is launching a child car safety initiative that will provide smart sensor technology, education, and community outreach to help prevent vehicle-related tragedies and give caregivers added peace of mind.
